Moving on to the Abbey
Children leave the Preparatory School at the end of year 6 and the majority transfer automatically to the Abbey.
This offers both social and academic continuity, a shared philosophy of education and the privilege of learning in such magnificent and historic surroundings.
The same family atmosphere and the through curriculum, both ensure a smooth transition from the Prep School to the Abbey, where a warm welcome awaits.
Moving on to the Senior School requires children to take increasingly more responsibility for themselves and those around them and the transition programme that we have in place helps to prepare them for that.
This programme for Year 6 pupils, runs after their SATs tests have finished, in order to help prepare them for the transition to senior schools and the greater freedom and responsibilities they will encounter there.
The series of courses are:
I.M.P.S.
- a health education initiative which operates out of the Eastbourne D.G.H. whose aim is to provide children with the skills to keep themselves safe, to act promptly to save life or prevent disability and to help others appropriately.
Cycling Proficiency
– run by the Local Education Road Safety Officer and ending with a test and a certificate.
Junior Lifeguard certificate
– a continually assessed course of training resulting in a certificate of competence.
Junior Sports Leadership
– a course of training involving both theory and practice. For the practical element year 6 played a big part in organising and running the Infant Sports.
The children have approached each course with great enthusiasm and feel that they have really benefited from each one.
