Fine Art
The Art department at Battle Abbey School has a proven track record of high achievement. Highly experienced and enthusiastic teachers offer qualifications in Fine Art and Art Textiles. The excitement and energy of the department is extremely popular with the pupils and many spend their free time developing their skills within this specialized environment.
The aim of Fine Art is to encourage individual and personal growth in the visual arts, to develop the perception of visual form and to co-ordinate the working of hand and eye. Students will learn to use the language of aesthetics and to have a critical understanding of Art history. Art will enhance their ability to think, perceive, make decisions and work through problems. These skills will improve their personal perception of the world and their reactions and responses to it. Above all Art is a stimulating and exciting subject that often develops into a life long passion. Students will learn that through hard work and experimentation they can be successful in achieving their aims.
During their work with the Art Department students will have the opportunity to visit galleries and exhibition. They will also benefit in the practical aspects by workshops given by visiting artists. Sixth form students are also given the opportunity to widen their experience and join the life drawing classes at Hastings College where they can experience a different learning environment away from the classroom.
The success of the department can be gauged by the quality of work on display around the school, on the website and in its Art rooms. Examination results are well above the national average and most students will achieve the top grades. Sixth form students will have extra tutoring in folder presentations to prepare for Art College interviews. Students gain places at the best Art Colleges from St.Martins, the Slade and Brighton. Students are also currently embarking on courses for Architecture, Fashion, Fine Art, Graphics and Fashion/Marketing.
