A Level IT
The world always has been and will always be evolving.  During the 18th Century there was the Agricultural Revolution, in the 19th Century there was the Industrial Revolution, and now we are living through the Information Revolution.  Driving this Revolution is technology.  We all use information, whether for business or pleasure, and increasingly computer-based information systems are being used to gather, process, organise, and present it.

The A Level course covers both the practical use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint packages, and the theoretical knowledge necessary to apply current IT technologies appropriately.  The course is about more than just improving one’s IT skills.  Students will become highly skilled in the ability to identify and analyse problems, and design, build and evaluate IT solutions.  These are transferable skills useful in both the worlds of academic and business.

In the sixth form, pupils may select ‘AS’ and ‘A2’ Level ICT (OCR). This course combines practical aspects of ICT such as database management with project management skills and management of change within a business environment. The subject matter is exciting and evolving to reflect the fast pace of change of ICT within society and business. There is an annual school trip for sixth form students which have involved looking at the information hub at BT Tower in London, visiting control systems in a brewery in London and looking at the evolution of technology utilised at the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
